Placement and Counselling Cell
The placement and coordination cell is a brain child of vibrant and dynamic Vice Chancellor Prof. N. K. Joshi who believes in action and collective responsibility. He had envisioned that the placement and coordination cell should be activity driven therefore he forged a strong team of Campus coordinators in all three campuses. Senior academicians from Almora, Bhimtal and Nainital campus were entrusted the responsibility to coordinate the activities at the campus level.
The cell was formerly known as the Directorate of Placement and Counseling and had its inception almost a decade ago. The founder Director had laid the strong foundation for the counseling related activities which lead to the various placement drives. The work was carried forward by the successors.
Placement and counseling has become an important benchmark for all ranking and accreditation agencies and is seen as the important parameter to improve the student diversity. We are blessed with a rich heritage and tradition where we believe that "Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man." In the process of learning we harness our own skills and capabilities to find a way for livelihood. With the advent of the 21st century there has been a paradigm shift in education from the OJT to the OBE model.
The aim of education nowadays is to enhance the employability skills of the students. In light of the same New Education Policy 2020 has been rolled out paving way for transformational reforms in school and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower. It has been proposed that by the year 2025 almost half the total enrolled strength of learners shall have exposure to vocational education. Experiential learning, hands-on learning, blended learning, critical thinking, out of box thinking, competency-based education and student centric pedagogy would be the new norm of education systems. The policy envisages broad-based, multi-disciplinary, holistic undergraduate education with flexible curricula, creative combinations of subjects, integration of vocational education and multiple entry and exit points with appropriate certification. The salient features of the NEP 2020 have been adopted while reincarnating and revitalizing the Placement and Counseling Cell with the following guiding principles (CABSE):-
1. Create global presence of the university with a bench strength of employable youth
2. Augment alumni network to foster employment opportunities.
3. Build a strong industry institute partnership
4. Strengthen students’ employability matrix.
5. Empower students with career counseling to promote the adage ‘Atam nirbhar’
The placement and counseling cell is committed to provide successful and better placement opportunities to its students. The placement and counseling cell acts as an interface between the students and the corporate world. The cell helps the students to find their prospective jobs. The cell plans work with a close coordination of the faculty to provide a platform for industrial training and constructive interaction with possible recruiters. The cell serves to bridge the gap between a job-aspirant and a prospective employer and also provides an opportunity for a holistic personality development, enhancement of soft skills, communication and interpersonal skills.
The cell envisages career counseling of students through counselors from all walks of life who would be called from various parts of the nation to interact and motivate the students of the university. Students would be prepared to have a global perspective and skills at par with international standards so that they are employable anywhere in the global village. Entrepreneurial skills would also be promoted with focus on generating employment at local level so that the university students become agents of change to retain the intellectual capital and ‘Vocal for Local’ champions.
